I started off this morning looking for what has so far proved to be quite elusive, the Spinifexbird and Rufous-crowned Emuwren. Both birds have been seen in recent months near the turnoff to Ormiston Gorge in the West MacDonnell Ranges so Idecided to give the spot a try. However, after a couple hours of wandering around in the spinfex Ihadn't had a glimpse of either of the birds. There were a few other birds around, more than at the Santa Teresa site, but still not the birds I wanted to find.
From there I headed into Ormiston Gorge itself where Iset up camp for the next couple nights. Today I took it fairly easy exploring the area just around the mouth of the gorge in the afternoon but not venturing too far. The highlight of that was saying a handful of Black-footed Rock Wallabies hopping around on the rocks. I have seen a handful of the rock wallabies and I think these are some of the best looking of the species, second to the Yellow-footed Rock Wallabies.
