Since I knew the rim walk was going to be quite crowded, I decided to get up and get going early. The walk was quite spectacular and I decided to simply enjoy the walk without the burden of lugging my heavy gear along. Instead, I carried my camera and a single lens and really enjoy the entire morning. The walk starts with a short but beastly climb up to the rim of the canyon. From here, the walk is fairly level with a few small up and downs into some side canyons. It includes such spectacular spots as the Garden of Eden where I spent a long time relaxing and photographing the gorgeous reflections in the water that reminded me of the Impressionists.
It also had a small section of domes that reminded me a lot of the Bungle Bungle range in Purnululu National Park. The ghost gums contrasting with the red rock and sheer cliffs dropping to the lush canyon bottom below were breathtaking. There were a lot of people enjoying the walk as well and I really enjoyed watching families with kids share the experience.
After finishing the hike, I packed up and got back on the road and headed towards my last stop Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. It is quite amazing that in only a few more days I will be headed back to Sydney and then from there back to the United States. In the meantime, I am going to get everything I can out of these last few weeks.
