Black-necked Stork - Fogg Dam, Northern Territory

You know those days when nothing goes according to plan? Well today was definately one of those days. I started off waiting for Hooded Parrots to come in to drink along the Ferguson River this morning but they never showed. A flock of 5 parrots, that I think were likely Hooded Parrots, flew by in the distance but that was my only glimpse of a parrot of any sort. Other than that, a few finches came in (including some Gouldians) but other than that it was extremely quiet. Eventually, Igave up and tried another couple spots with the same luck, or lack there of. So off I went towards Darwin.

I planned to spend several days in the Darwin area birding some of the sites and getting some things done like having a major service performed on my car. I decided that Ishould probably get that scheduled first and despite going to several different places, the earliest it could be done is next Tuesday. That was longer than I had planned to stay in Darwin so I scheduled the service and headed east again. My current plan is to spend a couple days around Fogg Dam and MaryRiver and then return to Darwin for some birding over the weekend and then get the car serviced on Tuesday and head straight to Kakadu from there. Thats the plan at the moment at least. We will see what happens.

I stopped at Fogg Dam on my way to Mary River Park where I will be based for the next few days. Fogg Dam is extremely well known as a place with a ton of water birds and sure enough, there were a lot of birds. I decided to take the evening off and just go for a walk to orient myself before I returned in the morning. However, after seeing this Black-necked Stork (also called a Jabiru), I returned for the camera and ended up spending a while photographing this stork and the other birds as they were flying all about.
