Eastern Reef Egret - Roebuck Bay, Broome, Western Australia

The rain started last night and continued through this morning with some scattered showers throughout the day. Just this evening, it is starting to look like it might clear overnight. In any case, the road in to the area is technically closed and has been sliced up pretty badly by people today. The ranger said I should be able to leave in the morning though, assuming we don't get any more rain tonight. I hope so. In any case, the road to Bell Gorge, my destination for tomorrow, is apparently closed so I may be headed to Drysdale Station instead. I hope that road is open.

Despite the rain, I still managed to have quite a nice day. I had a lazy morning and then eventually went for a walk up through the gorge. It is a beautiful gorge, full of freshwater crocodiles and a fair amount of birds. I saw heaps of Great Bowerbirds and Black-faced Cuckoo-Shrikes as well as many others. I saw my first White-gaped Honeyeaters and a "Yellow" Weebill (northern race of the Weebill). I didn't carry a camera because of the rain and the lack of light but I am hoping I can get a few images tomorrow morning before I get on the road. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
