After four great nights at Eyre Bird Observatory, I finally dragged myself away and got back on the road. I can't begin to explain how much I enjoyed both the birds and the observatory itself. However, the real attraction were the people. The current caretakers, Beverley and John, and the upcoming caretakers, Bill and Els, were fabulous and it was great to be able to spend Easter with a group of people that felt a lot like family after only a few days. Sadly though, I did have to leave eventually and while I did stay an extra two nights, I finally got on the road this afternoon. Since I didn't get away as early as I had hoped I didn't make it to my destination and just camped along the track I was traveling. As the light was fading, I wasn't comfortable driving on the track that was quite muddy after today's rain so I pulled up short. Iwill just have to make it to Cape Le Grand tomorrow. |
