Yesterday's intermittent showers continued this morning as I continued along the fairly slippery Baladonia Track on my way towards Esperance. Fortunately, Ididn't have any major problems and got through just fine though a bit muddy. Along the way, Istumbled across a flock of several hundred White-tailed Black-Cockatoos. These huge birds look just like the Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoos of the west though they lack the colored pigment in their tail feathers and face patch. They are found only in the southwest and in fact are my first endemic of the region. Despite the low light and slight rain, Iwas able to get some images of a few birds as they fed and preened in some banksia trees.
After leaving the cockatoos, I continued on into Esperance where I spent a bit of time picking up some food and things and then headed into Cape Le Grande National Park. I didn't know what to expect but had heard it was beautiful. They sure were right. The beautiful white sand beaches and turquoise waters were brilliant when the sun broke through the clouds. I spent most of the afternoon waiting for the right light and clouds to photograph a piece of the coast. After a evening walk on the beach I retired early to relax and catch up on some photo editing.
