So much for hoping to photograph a Slender-billed Thornbill this morning. Iawoke to heavily overcast skies and intermittent rain. I spent a little bit of time looking for the thornbills but quickly realized, even if I did find them, there was so little light that photographing them would be practically impossible. Not to worry, there are other places to photograph them once Iget into South Australia. So with that, Iheaded west into new territory and ultimately, into South Australia.
I didn't have any exact plans except to stop and see if I could see some stuff on my way to Gluepot Reserve run by Birds Australia. I didn't plan to arrive at Gluepot until tomorrow so Idecided just to take my time and stop if I found anything good. It turns out that Igot a call from a local guide who has been seeing Scarlet-chested Parrots fairly regularly not too far away. These parrots are difficult to see without a bit of an expedition north of the Nullabor Plain so it wasn't even a question on where I was going to go.
I arrived late evening at the park and it took me a bit to find the right site. Eventually, I did though couldn't locate any parrots except Mulgas. Not to worry as there was a ton of birdlife around and apparently, they were most reliable in the morning anyway. We will just have to wait and see what I can find tomorrow.
