Today I ended up spending a whole lot of time on the road without too much to show for it. I started off this morning photographing at the Three Thumbs Picnic Area without any success. There were a fair amount of birds around, but I don't think I ever even as much as got one in the lens. After giving up there, I moved on to the Wielangta Picnic Area where I was after the endemic Scurbtit. After a while I did see one but I was unable to get a photo of it to my disappointment. Instead, I had to settle with the above photo of a Tasmania Scrubwren, currently listed as an endemic species but is likely to be reclassified as a subspecies of the White-browed Scrubwren in the near future.
After that, Imoved on to Orford where I had planned to photograph a Fairy Tern colony. To my disappointment, I couldn't get close to the colony since it was roped off to protect the birds from disturbance That, combined with deterioating weather, made me change my plans and head west. The weather report calls for rain on the east coast for the next few days so I decided to head west towards Strahan to search for Ground Parrots. I didn't get on the road until late afternoon so only made it as far as Lake St Clair where I am spending the night and will photograph around here tomorrow. Hopefully I will be able to do some good.
