Buff-breasted Paradise-Kingfisher - Kingfisher Park, Julatten, Queensland

After nearly a month of traveling with a friend of mine from home and my parents, I am now back on my own. I must say that the last three plus weeks have been a lot of fun and it was great to have some company and be able to share my experienes with folks from back home. At the same time though Iam ready to get back to it as Ihad the camera put away for most of the that period.

A quick synopsis of the past few weeks. My only friend from back home my age that enjoys birding arrived in Tasmania at the end of February and we spent several days birding around Tasmania before returning to Sydney. There Sean and I had a couple days before my parents arrived and Sean returned to China where he is teaching English. My parents and I then proceeded on a bit of a whirlwind tour of the country. In about two and a half weeks we saw Sydney, Melbourne, Uluru, and the Cairns/Wet Tropics area. It was great to be able to show them the places I have been and introduce them to some of the people I have met over the past 8 months.

If you are following my bird totals at the bottom of each weblog, you will notice that my totals jumped a bit during this trip. This was mostly because of the time with Sean plus a couple days of birding in the Wet Tropics during the Wet Season. Here, Iwas able to pick up a few new birds like the Buff-breasted Paradise-Kingfisher that are only in the area during the Wet and I missed while I was there. While I had my camera with my most of the time, I took very few photos instead choosing to spend the time with my family instead. Therefore, Iam ready to get back behind the camera and am excited to once again start exploring new country.
