My last morning in Melaleuca was spent wandering the Southwest Coast Track looking for Ground Parrots. I had heard them several evenings and one of the volunteers saw one out here yesterday so I figured I would give it a shot. Sure enough, after Ihad wandered along the trail for a while, a lone parrot flushed in the distance. I can't say I had satisfying views, but they were sufficient to clearly identify the bird as a Ground Parrot. Unfortunately, that was the only look I had at the bird all day. I did manage to see more Southern Emuwrens than I have seen total all year as well as some other heathland birds. After returning to camp, Ipacked up and flew out on my noon flight. The rest of the day was spent relaxing and having a nice hot dinner. |
