During my trip to find the penguing colony yesterday afternoon, Ifound a pair of Pied Oystercatchers that were hanging out near a rocky part of the beach. Since the penguins were my target for last night, I decided to try for the oystercatchers this morning, and fortuntately they were still there. All in all it turned out to be quite a superb morning in fact. On my way to the beach, I had an opportunity to photograph the endemic Green Rosella in the campground. Once on the beach, I had good success with the oystercatchers and then on my return to the campsite, I found a pair of Hooded Plovers on the beach as well. They were a bit skittish but I was able to get a few photographs of this rare species as well. To top things off, Iwas also able to photograph a Black Currawong that was feeding in the bushes at the edge of the dunes. For a morning when I was just after a pair of oystercatchers, it turned out to be way more productive than I had imagined.
I packed up and headed into town where I could run a few errands. After getting that finished, I headed back towards Eaglehawk Neck before finding a place to stay for the night. Ispent the rest of the afternoon and evening working on images and preparing for the pelagic trip which I will be going on tomorrow. This may be my only chance to get into the waters off of Tasmania so Ihope we have a good day.
