I spent the day on the Southen Ocean today with three other birders in an attempt ot see some of the albatrosses and other birds in Tasmanian waters. As far as birding goes, it was a great day with a good variety of birds. Photographically though it was a major disappointment. Tough conditions due to an overcast morning combined with some equipment difficulties that I didn't discover until I got back to shore meant that the vast majority of images turned out soft. I was hugely disapointed with this since I thought I had gotten some great images of birds like White-faced Storm-Petrel, White-chinned Petrel, several shearwaters, and others. I did manage to salvage a few images but photographically it was a disappointing day, even if that disappointment was discovered until this evening. I must thank Peter Marsh for organzing the trip and making it possible for me to accompany him. It made for a great day on the water with great company, good birding, and all in all, an all around great day. |
