Forty-spotted Pardalote - Peter Murrell Conservation Area, Kingston, Tasmania

The Forty-spotted Pardalote is probably the hardest of all of the Tasmanian endemics to see. That being said, if you are in the right place, they aren't very difficult. The birds are listed as endangered with a population size somewhere around 2500 birds all found in the southeastern portion of Tasmania and a couple barrier islands. Ihave been photographing at the Peter Murrell Conservation Area the last few days and decided to make them a top priority today.

Despite the overcast skies this evening, I was able to do a little bit of photographing and was quite pleased with the results. I saw at least three or four different pairs but it took a while to find a bird that would forage down low instead of the very top of the tree. I ended up photographing from teh side of a hill so that Iwas about a third of the way up the tree and this helped. In any case, I was quite pleased to add this little bird to my collection of images.
