I started the morning off by trying to photograph the Black-faced Cormorant, Australia's only endemic cormorant. Ihad seen these birds on my earlier trip to Tassie but they were always sitting on rocks a fair bit off shore, making photographing them pretty much impossible unless I had a boat. However, some locals suggested I check the eastern shore of the Derwent River where they often roosted on the rocky shore. Yesterday, I did some scouting and found a flock of a dozen or so but the light was in the opposite direction from what I wanted. Instead, Ireturned this morning and to my disappointment only found one bird and it was a lot more skittish than the flock was yesterday. I did manage to get a few images and I was pleased with the one above.
Afterwards, I decided to spend the rest of this gorgeous Sunday just sitting on the coast and relaxing. I found a nice spot and pretty much spent the day moving between the shade and sun, sitting on a rock by the water, and reading a book. Let me tell you, there are far worse ways to spend a day. This evening I headed up to Mt. Wellington to scout for a morning photo session tomorrow.
