Mulga Parrot - Bookmark Biosphere Reserve, South Australia

This morning I awoke to intermittent showers which gave me a nice excuse to steal a bit extra sleep. Eventually the rain stopped and I was awake, so I headed back out to ____ to try and photograph the Shy Heathwren I saw last night. Shortly after arriving, I found the bird right near the carpark. Ihad about five minutes with two birds moving around in the underbrush and despite having at least two chances whenI had the bird in perfect focus in the viewfinder, I was a half second too slow to get the image. After a few minutes they disappeared into the underbrush and no amount of searching could relocate them.

So off I went to see what I could find elsewhere. My next target bird was a flock of Cape Barren Geese that are supposed to hang out in the fields along Lake Alexandrina. Sure enough, I found the flock after a bit of driving but unfortunately, it was an afternoon shoot instead of a morning location. I decided to head south once again to Coorong National Park where I hoped to find a Purple-gaped Honeyeater.

Iarrived midafternoon and did a quick drive through of the park near Salt Creek. I wasn't exactly sure where to look but decided to go for a walk on one of the local trails. Sure enough, after a few minutes I located a lone Purple-gaped Honeyeater. Unfortunately, the conditions were deteriorating, so I headed back to camp to call it a day and return tomorrow. Hopefully I can get the honeyeater tomorrow and then the geese in the afternoon.
