Brush Boronzewing - Eyre Bird Observatory, Nuytsland Nature Reserve, West Australia

The main bird I want to photograph during my stay here at the Eyre Bird Observatory is the Brush Bronzewing. These beautifully plumaged pigeons are fairly difficult to see in most places, but here they come in to drink at the birdbaths around the house. Since they come in daily and there are usually people around, they also are a bit less skittish than usual making for a great photo opportunity. This morning proved to be fairly productive as three Bronzewings came in to drink right at dawn and came and went for a couple hours. They were a bit difficult to photograph as they still are a bit skittish but I did manage to come away with a few shots that I was fairly happy with.

The above shot was probably the best for the day. I would rather have the bird sitting on a natural perch rather than a rock and cement bird bath but you take what you get when the opportunity presents itself. Ialso would prefer a little better light so I will definately give it another try in the morning tomorrow.
