I had meant to spend the day birding but ended up spending nearly the whole day in the car and most of that time I wasn't driving. Iawoke this morning to a beautiful morning but clouds quickly moved in an we have had intermitten rain ever since. There have even been a few heavy showers. This gave me a chance to catch up on some work I needed to do on the computer. I have now written up my newsletter for this month so hopefully I will get both March and April sent out here shortly. I also had some other administrative things I needed to finish up.
Other than that, Idid head into town briefly to get some fuel and some supplies. On the way, I drove slowly through the park looking for the charismatic Numbat. This small ground dwelling marsupial is one of Australia's few diurnal (active during the day) mammals. They were once found across a large part of the continent but now are mostly found in a few patches. Unfortunately, I failed to see any during my drive into town. However, on the way back, I wasn't even looking and there was a Numbat in the middle of the road! My first impression was that this was Australia's answer to the squirrel or chipmunk. They really are quite cute with a big bushy tail. I hope I can find one once I get my new camera on Wednesday (it is now in Australia and has cleared customs).
