This morning I didn't have any luck with the Brush Bronzewings but I did manage to get a spectacular image of the Major Mitchell Cockatos. These beautiful birds are really quite subtle with a very soft pink over most of their plumage. However, as soon as they either raise the crest or their wings, a beautiful patch of deep rose is visible makin them one of the most stunning of Australia's Cockatoos. I have wanted to get one of these birds in flight to show the rose underwings and this morning I was pleased to capture this bird just as it was preparing to land on the old telegraph wire. It was just what I had in mind.
One of the visitors here at the observatory reminded me that it was Easter weekend and that places will be croweded over the holiday weekend. They had just been through several of the national parks that Iplanned to visit this weekend and they said the campgrounds were full. Because of this, Idecided to stay at the Observatory another night and hopefully avoid some of the crowds.
