Red-eared Firetail - Cheyne Beach, Waychinicup National Park, Western Australia

I can now proudly say I have climbed to the top of the highest tree tower in the world. Imust admit this wasn't something I thought I would be doing when I first planned this year but it was definately a cool experience. I spent most of the day touring the magnificent karri forests. The karri tree is a eucalypt that is considered the third tallest tree species in the world. They are really quite a breathtaking tree. Just outside Pemberton, a platform has been erected at the top of one of the trees over 60 meters, thats over 180 feet, up into the tree. To get up to it, you simply climb up a series of bolts that have been screwed into the tree. This is a bit unnerving as the bolts are only about an inch in diameter and no floor or anything between them. The bolts just spiral their way up the trunk until you reach the platforms at the top. From the top you are rewarded with an outstanding view of the surrounding canopy as well as the surrounding contryside. I was fortunate to be the only person there so I had the view to myself which was quite nice. The rest of the day was spent working my way down to Augusta and continuing to explore the forests.
