White-eared Honeyeater - Bookmark Biosphere Preserve, South Australia

This morning was to be my final attempt to see the Scarlet-chested Parrots that I have spent the past few days looking for. Unfortunately, after four hours of wandering through the mallee and several clearings, I came up empty. While I didn't see the Scarlet-chesteds, I did add two new parrots to my list at this site over the past few days and have compiled quite a long list of parrots here. In the few days I have searched this area I saw Mulga and Blue-winged Parrots, Bluebonnets, Mallee Ringnecks, and Purple-crowned Lorikeets. Not bad for one little patch of mallee. I also managed to finally get an image of a White-eared Honeyeater, something that I have failed to do on numerous occasions over the past few months.

After my failed attempt to see the parrots, Iheaded into Berri where I met up with Peter Waanders, a local bird guide. I met Peter on the Strzelecki Track back in October and hadn't been able to get together since then. It was nice to catch up and he provided me with lots of tips on locations to try over the next few days before I head west. My schedule for the next few days is a bit up in the air as Ijust learned that the pelagic trip that I had been planning to go out on on Sunday was postponed for a few weeks so I now have a bit of an open schedule.

I left Peter and headed southwest to try and find a Shy Heathwren that I missed at Gluepot last week. Peter gave me a couple locations to try and the second one worked perfectly. Unfortunately, it was heavily overcast and getting late so I didnt' even bother with the camera but at least I got to see the bird. Hopefully over the next few days I can pick up some of the birds that I have missed over the last week. Maybe this will be a good start.
