This morning's wader banding session was a bit of a bust as we didn't catch any waders. All we managed was 5 Silver Gulls. While it is always interesting to hold a bird in your hand, Silver Gulls weren't that exciting since they are easily seen up close and personal in most city parks. In any case, it was nice to meet some of the local birders and take a break away from the camera in the morning.
One good thing that did come out of this morning was the discovery of a Yellow Chat quite near the observatory. These birds are currently around but it is too wet to access the area where they are currently being found. Because of this, I was thrilled to have one show up that I could get it. This evening, I headed out to see if I could find it. After tromping around for a while, I finally found the female. She is quite a beautiful bird but I was a bit disappointed as the male is simply stunning. However, during my attempt to photograph the female I also found a male! Neither bird would let me get very close, but I did manage to make some images I am quite pleased with, even if the bird isn't very large in the frame.
Tomorrow I am going in search of waders and am hoping to pick up a hand full of new birds. We will see how it goes.
