Estuarine Crocodile - South Alligator River, Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory

Today was spent almost entirely on the water and it proved to be quite a nice day. I started off on a sunrise cruise on Yellow Waters Billabong. This is one of the largest tourist attractions in Kakadu and for good reason. We didn't have much of a sunrise because of the clouds, but we did have a nice morning on the water. I didn't get many photos because of the lack of light but seeing the huge numbers of birds is always a pleasure.

After the cruise, I headed back up to Jabiru to join local Marc Gardner in his boat on the South Alligator River. We spent the afternoon cruising up and down the river looking for mangrove birds while the tide was high and looking at crocs once the tide had dropped. The tidal swing up here is absolutely amazing. I can hardly believe the power and speed of the tidal changes. We didn't see as many birds as we had initially hoped but I was perfectly happy to photograph the Estuarine Crocodiles. They look a whole lot meaner than both our American Alligator and Americna Crocodile and they are also muhc larger. Amazing creatures.
