Diamond Dove - N'Dhala Walk, N'Dhala Gorge Nature Park, Northen Territory

After a really fun and relaxing few days at Ross River Resort and the East MacDonnell Ranges, I headed back in to Alice Springs today. I will be spending the weekend here and hopefully will get some chores out of the way as well as see a couple of birds. After getting a campsite, Iheaded out to see if I could find two of those birds, a Rufous-crowned Emuwren and a Spinifexbird.

Southeast of Alice is the Aboriginal community of Santa Theresa and both of these birds have been seen along the road about two thirds of the way to the community. I headed off early afternoon to see if I could find either of these very secretive and shy birds. I found the spot quite easily as it is identified by a tire stuck in a powerpole. Idon't know if that was done by birders or somebody else, but the birds have been seen in the vicinity on a number of occasions. Unfortunately, after searching both the north and south sides of the road for over an hour each, I saw only two birds, a Willie Wagtail and a Mistletoebird. The light was fading so I made a brief check of another site up the road but headed back to town without any luck.
