I awoke to an overcast sky which was bad for photographing Purple-crowned Fairywrens in early morning light but was good for trying to photograph birds coming in to drink later in the day. In fact, it was perfect for me. I had a lazy morning and eventually headed off to Campbell Springs where I had spent a couple hours at midday yesterday. Sure enough, I found a flock of Gouldian Finches shortly after arriving. This time though, the light was very even without the harsh contrast of a sunny day. Over the next few hours, I managed to see several flocks of Gouldian Finches come in to drink at the creek and finally I was able to get some photographs of one of the adult birds. It took quite a while but I was quite pleased to have the image. The bird that I photographed was either a female or a young bird that was still acquiring its adult plumage as it was a bit duller than some of the other adults. Again, the flocks were mostly juveniles with a few Black-faced adults and I did have a lone Red-faced adult but I couldn't get any photos of it.
Tomorrow Iam off after another somewhat rare bird, the Hooded Parrot!
