Today was pretty uneventful as I had a bit of a relaxed morning and then spent the afternoon at the Toranga Zoo. The zoo was nice as it had a large section on Australian wildlife including two nocturnal houses which let you see what may of Australia's mammals look like since the vast majority of them are nocturnal. I feel like Igot a good general introduction to t he country's wildlife.
I thought I would post this image today since I didn't really shoot today and this was the first bird species I photographed yesterday, the Masked Lapwing. I think these birds are really interesting because they have a bony spur in their wing. If you look carefully at the front of the wing near what would be referred to as the elbow, you might see a small point of yellow. This is a bony spur and it appears to be sharp but I haven't been spurred by it to find out. I am not sure why these birds have it or what it is used for but I would guess it has something to do with territory or particularly nest defense. As I learn more about it I might come back and update this post.
