The Regent Honeyeater avoided my lens, though I did get to see at least one bird on about a half dozen occasions high in the treetops. This morning I spent a good three hours sitting below a giant eucalypt that was flowering, mostly in the canopy though on a few branches down low. During that time I saw a wide variety of birds feeding in the tree including Regent and White-plumed Honeyeaters, Dusky Woodswallow (new bird), Red-rumped Parrot, Olive-backed Oriole (another new one) and others. It was quite a nice morning and while I didnt' get any photos of the Regent Honeyeater, Idid get some great photos of the Woodswallows and a Jacky Winter.
The rest of the day was spent here at my campsite getting my vehicle all set up with all the new storage containers, refridgerator, stove, etc that I have purchased in the last few days. As of now I am all set up though I need to get another two storage containers and some straps or bungees to secure everything for serious offroad driving. After that I had my first hot meal prepared by myself for the trip. Basically, if the rest of the year is like today, I will be one happy person. Great birds in the morning, productive midday, and then a few more birds in teh campsite in the afternoon followed by a delicious hot meal. This is how Ipictured spending the year whenI first imagined this project. Tomorrow is more of the same, though no work during midday unless I decide to go into Mudgee to get the rest of my supplies.
