Today I was fortunate enough to spend the day with Chris Ross, local photographer and general naturalist. Chris took the entire day to show me around The Royal National Park which is just south of Sydney and effectively Chris's backyard. It was a dream to walk through the park and have someone point out every bird and flower and not only name the species but tell me a little bit about it all. It was way information overload but it was fantastic. Ithank Chris for his time and hope you all will visit his site: Australian Natural Images.
Isort of feel like today is really the first big day of my project. I was able to get out and explore with someone who knew what they were doing and was willing to share their expertise. Tonight is also my first night out of the hostel and in a tent and I am looking forward to a crisp cool night and a warm sleeping bag. It is really quite exciting.
This is the first parrot type bird I have posted, though I do have a few other shots of other species. These birds are massive and feed on tiny little seeds. They are just one of the many many parrot and cockatoo species that I hopefully will be photographing this year. This species was one that I didn't know a good spot for so it was very fortunate for us that we stumbled across a flock feeding just off the road. I was able to shoot from the car window and Chris from the roof. To see more, including a portrait of one feeding on a seed pod, check out the photo galleries.
