As desperately as this region needs rain, it is a bit frustrating for me. Today, the rain continued and fairly hard and constant this afternoon. During the morning I was able to explore the region a bit, walking the campground and grounds of O'Reiley's Guesthouse as well as the Tree Top Walk. The birds are fantastic and the plants exotic. It really is a pretty special place and I now understand why this is such a famous place. I was able to spend some time talking with TimO'Reiley, one of the guides, and he was extremely helpful in recommending some places to try for the specialty birds.
In the meantime, as I wait for the rain to at least let up before I go off on a 12+ km hike in order to find a very shy and elusive bird, I decided to photograph the numerous birds that were tame around the area. And by tame, I mean I had a parrot sitting on my head at one point as I simply walked through the feeding area. Iwas simply passing through and a bird landed on my head and shoulder. Australian King Parrots and Crimson Rosellas are quite friendly as they are pretty much constantly fed seed. Regent and Satin Bowerbirds are common as well. Probably the oddest bird though is the Australian Brush-Turkey. These guys are running around everywhere and are some pretty strange looking birds. So far I only captured one image of them but I decided to post it today. Hope you enjoy! Hopefully more to come tomorrow.
