Pair of Black Swans - Centennial Park, Sydney, New South Wales

Ups and downs were the theme for today. Istarted back at Centennial Park at sunrise where we had a gorgeous few minutes of light before the sun went behind a thin layer of clouds for the next half hour or so. When it did come back out of the clouds it wasn't as nice, thought it was definately still good enough to shoot in. Iran in to three other photographers there who were all helpful and friendly. At least three of us got good shots of a juvenile White-bellied Sea Eagle that has been frequenting the ponds at the park for several weeks now. While we were waiting for the eagle to fly, I kept myself occupied photographing the Black Swans and various other waterfowl that were swimming around.

This afternoon, I went for a drive to the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. It was a bit far for an afternoon but it was well worth it and I can use the practice driving on the left. The Blue Mountains were gorgeous and much different than I had expected. Iwas able to spend a couple hours wandering around, driving from little town to town and overlook to overlook. However, as I was packing up my tripod to head home, Idiscovered that it was broken. This is an essential piece of equipment and I am going to have to spend most of tomorrow trying to track down a repair place or spare parts so I can do it myself. It will be quite a hassle but these things happen and I am just glad it is happening now while I am in the city rather then when I am in the middle of the Outback.

WhenI got home this evening, I made plans with another photographer, Chris Ross, who has been extremely helpful thus far in my planning. We are going to get together on Sunday and he is going to show me around Royal National Park as well as give me some tips on places that I will be visiting in the upcoming months. After getting off of the phone with him, another photographer who I met this morning at Centennial Park called to invite me on a trip to a spot about 500 km west of Sydney in about 10 days. So, despite having a broken tripod and no vehicle of my own yet, things seem to be coming together and the next few weeks look exciting.
