Today was another rainy day, but that was fine with me as I needed to get some things organized and buy a few pieces of camping equipment before I check out of my hostel in the morning and head south to Royal National Park. After running some errands and getting caught in a rainstorm, I came back to get organized. By early afternoon the rain had stopped and the sun had come out so I snuck off to do some birding.
Istarted at a local park in an industrial area near the airport that Jamin had shown me yesterday. The rain had elevated the water levels so the stilts that Iwas hoping to photograph weren't around anymore. Instead, I found this little guy. While in the field, I had no idea what it was but it reminded me of a North American wren. Once I got home I was able to identify him as a Golden-headed Cisticola. It is a male in non-breeding plumage. During the breeding season the males entire head turns golden, hence the name.
Anyway, tomorrow I am off for a few days in Royal National Park, just south of Sydney. I start it off with a tour by local photographer Chris Ross and then I have a few days on my own to follow up on his tips. Should be a great couple of days and Isort of feel that I am really about to start this project. I probably will be offline for a while, but promise a big update whenI get back online, probably next weekend.
