Since I arrived so late last night I didn't get a chance to do any exploring and really had no idea what to expect. Because I planned to spend a couple days here, I devoted today to exploring the area. I ended up spending most of the day at a small dam at the appropriately named Honeyeater Picnic Area. Here I found a large flock of Yellow-tufted and Fuscous Honeyeaters with a few others coming in to drink and bathe. By then the light was a bit harsh so I didn't get the camera out but since tehy were my two main target species, I decided to sit and watch for a while and return in the morning.
I quickly realized that these birds were nearly always up in the canopy of the gum trees and would be quite difficult to photograph except when they came down to drink. To my surprise, they didn't come down in the afternono like they did in the morning so I will just have to wait until tomorrow to see if I can get some photos.
