This morning I continued with the idea that I would change up my focus in order to give myself a break from teh pursuit of birds and this time focused on photographing the rainforest. I got up early and headed over to a different area of the park known as Plateau Beech where I wasn't exactly sure what to expect but new there was a bit of a trail to hike. It turned out that there was a fantastic little trail and the trail passed two different waterfalls as well as a number of little minor riffles in the streams.
Fortunately, I had set off with my 4x5 camera and Ispent the better part of a couple hours photographing the dense forests with huge ferns and the beautiful waterfalls and cascades of the area. I don't spend a lot of time photographing landscapes but I have a special affinity for waterfalls and photograph them as often as I can. These particular scenes were great and I came away revitalized and energized, a feeling I haven't felt in a while.
From there, I headed east back to the coast, stopping at Katang Nature Reserve near Laurieton where I hoped to see Glossy Black-Cockatoos, another bird that has been quite elusive for me. The headland was beautiful with spectacular cliffs falling into a frothy blue sea. I got very excited for a few minutes when I spotted some large cockatoos but they turned out to be the much more common Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoos. As evening approached, so did a massive storm with high winds and I decided to call it a night and find a place to camp before the storm hit.
