I had another early start this morning and Nevil and I headed off to Pitt Town Lagoon near the Hawkesbury River where a number of good birds have been seen in recent weeks. My target bird was an Australian Spotted Crake and without too much trouble we were able to see not only one but at least 4 different birds. I got a few photos but nothing spectacular. I think my favorite photo of the morning was the above image of a Golden-headed Cisticola. It may be small in the frame but I love how the sun has back lit the bird, showing off the golden plumage of his head. The fact that he was singing doesn't hurt either.
Afterwards, we stopped at several other locations trying to track down some birds but the day was quickly heating up and the birds quieted down and we didn't have the luck we were hoping for. At Mitchell Park we did manage to see a number of birds but most would not cooperate so we walked away without the photos we wanted. Eventually we headed back to Nevil's place to relax and avoid the heat but not before stopping for an excellent lunch and smoothie. The rest of the afternoon has consisted of some minor organizationl updates to my galleries and relaxing. If you haven't visited the gallery section of my site in the past few weeks, give it a visit!
