The ideal day for photography for me is a beautiful clear morning followed by light cloud cover during midday and then clearning for evening. Today was the exact opposite. This morning the light was so low that I didn't even bother to get out the camera. Midday was perfectly clear and extremely hot while the clouds rolled back in just before sunset.
Days like this can be quite frustrating photographically but at the same time Ican occasionally get images with a bit different feel to them. Take for example the image above. I had been trying to photograph these gorgeous Mulga Parrots that came in to drink at the bore. Since the light was so low I had to use a very low shutter speed and when they all flew off, I captured this image with the birds severely blurred. Over the past few years I have made several images like this, sometimes on purpose and sometimes purely as a stroke of luck, but I really love them when they work. I think this one works but would love any thoughts anyone might have on it. Please drop me an email if you feel strongly either way!
