Since I didn't get on the road yesterday, Ihad about an hour and a half drive to the site where I wanted to be at sunrise. That meant that I was on the road by 4:30 in an attempt to get to Sherwood Arborateum just after sunrise to try and see a Bush-hen that had been seen recently. I managed the drive without any trouble and arrived about 6:10 though I was unable to find the Bush-hen. My original plans had me moving on to another nearby site but Ihad confused it in my mind with a third location where I actually wanted to go. Since I had confused the sites, I had not gotten directions to the third site so decided to skip the second site and try and find the third.
Again, without too much trouble, I managed to find the site, Daisy Hill Park, where a pair of Square-tailed Kites have been nesting. Square-tailed Kites are one of three species of endemic raptors so they were high on my list of target birds. Quickly after arriving I found a single bird thoughI didn't have very good views of the bird. After walking up the track a bit to see if I could get a better view, the bird was gone and while I found the nest, it too was empty. I decided to spend a little bit of time searching the area but came up empty so decided that I was ready to move on and Igot back on the road and headed for New South Wales and Border Ranges National Park.
