Well this morning turned out to be a bust so I got on the road early. I was up early as planned and went to the second malleefowl mound I had been told about. However, I did not scout this one very well and didn't realize that the pretty much the entire eastern side of the mound where I wanted to photograph from was completely obscurred by brush making it pretty much impossible to photograph. I could have done a bit of pruning and cut a whole but it is my policy to try and minimize disturbance as much as possible, especially around nest sites so I didn't even consider this. Instead, I headed back to the car, packed up and was on the road fairly early. By late morning Ihad arrived in Swan Hill where I planned to spend the night while using today and tomorrow to get some things done. First, I needed to do a bit of shopping and second I needed to spend some dedicated time catching up on cataloging photographs from the past month and a half. After setting up my camp at a lovely spot on the Murray River I headed into town where I spent most of the day in the library where I could sit at a table and have continuous power for my laptop. Fortunately, I got my work done by late afternoon and retired to my camp where I started, and finished, a book. During my reading I was interrupted by a pair of lorikeets in the tree above me. It turned out that they were Musk Lorikeets, and while I have probably seen them before, this was the first time I had a good look at them. It can't be a bad day when you add a new bird to the list, especially a work day.
