This morning I was up early and on the road up the mountain to see if the Rufous Scrub-birds would be active despite the cold weather. I arrived in the appropriate spot and while I was setting up, some other birders arrived, one of whom was a guide and had seen the birds there before. The four of us spent the next few hours walking up and down the road in search of these birds and while we think we may have heard one at one point, we can't be sure. By late morning I was a bit cold and decided to head back to camp to find some sun and hot tea to try and warm up.
After spending the middle part of the day soaking up the warming sun and reading a book, I headed back up the mountain for another fruitless search for the scrub-bird. I am beginning to think that this bird has beat me, but I am going to give it one more shot tomorrow morning.
