Finally, the sun came back out this morning. Again, I spent some time wandering around in the mulga in the vicinity of Nine Mile Bore and was able to photograph a White-browed Treecreeper again (above). My hope for the morning was to photograph a Crested Bellbird and while I saw a male, I followed it around for nearly an hour without getting close enough to get any photos. The same thing happened with a Red-backed Kingfisher. It sort of seemed to be the theme for the morning.
Once the sun got up into the sky and the light was getting harsh and temperature rising, I headed into Cunnamulla to resupply and head north to Bowra Station (http://www.birdingatbowra.com) where I hope to spend the next few days. Bowra is a cattle and sheep station that welcomes birders to stay on their property and I have heard lots of great reports from other birders soI am really looking forward to it.
I arrived early evening and found that the birds are indeed abundant. The small lagoon is full of birds, both waterbirds and songbirds coming in to drink. Several species of parrots as well as a wide range of other birds including Chestnut-crowned Babblers and Masked, White-bellied, and White-browed Woodswallows are all easy to see in the tree surrounding the waterhole. I think this is going to be quite a productive few days and look forward to it.
