Lace Monitor - Sheepstation Creek Campground, Border Ranges Natoinal Park, New South Wales

I awoke this morning to continued rain. In some ways, this rain has given me a chance to catch up on sleep and relax after being on the road for so long but I am really a bit tired of it. Finally, about noon I gave up and decided it wasn't going to stop and packed up my stove and other things that were still outside and headed down the mountain into town. I decided I would give it one more shot and try the eastern part of the park that I couldn't get to from where I had been camped and headed off in that direction.

It turns out, this park just wasn't meant to be explored by me this week. Not only was the road closed from the west, but as I was entering from the east, I found that a tree had fallen across the road blocking it before I ever reached the area Iwanted to explore. After trying to move the tree out of the way without any luck, I turned around and returned to the Bar Mountain Picnic Area which I had breifly stopped in on my way north. I know Scrub-birds have been seen here and I think I might have heard one during my earlier stop so I figured I would give it a chance.

The picnic area had quite a nice shelter with picnic table that was dry so I decided to stay here for the night and explore in the morning. The shelter also had a fireplace and after about an hour I managed to get a roaring fire going despite the soaking wet wood. I have now spent a nice relaxing evening sitting next to a roaring fire while the rain continues to fall, but I am warm and dry. If it is still raining in the morning thenI will abandon hopes for exploring the Border Ranges and head on south. If it has stopped and birds are singing well I will do some exploring and then head south.
