The Undarra Lava Tubes turned out to be a quite impressive site. Picture a massive tunnel except no mountain for the tunnel to go through and completely manmade. The tour was informative and quite enjoyable. I only did the two hour tour but I imagine the half day or full day tours would be even better since I only was able to visit 2 sections of the tube.
After leaving Undarra, I continued west to the town of Georgetown where Ifueled up and continued on to a dam about 20 km west of town. Here I set up for an afternoon sitting by the water photographing whatever happened to fly or swim by. It turned out to be quite productive giving me opportunities to photograph a number of species that I had not photographed yet this trip, yet none of them were endemics. I can think of far worse ways to spend an afternoon then sitting in the warm sun by a lagoon teaming with birdlife both in the water and overhead. Tomorrow morning will find me next to this lagoon again and then it is westward again to Karumba where I hope to explore the mangroves of the Gulf of Carpentaria.
