I awoke this morning feeling much better and after a brief walk around the campsite hit the road to head north to the mulga country around Eulo. Eulo is a small town about 60 kilometers north of the park and about another 60 kilometers to the east is Cunamulla, a much larger town. I decided to head into Cunnamulla to restock and refuel. After exploring the town and getting what Ineeded, I headed back west to Nine Mile Bore, just east of Eulo. This particular spot is supposed to be good for a number of the dry country species and is surrounded by mulga, a type of acacia. Again, it was overcast and sprinkling occasionaly so I decided to take it easy for the afternoon. By about 3:00, I got my camera out and set up on the bore hoping for some parrots or other birds to come in to drink. To my delight, several Major Mitchell's Cockatoos, now with the boring name of Pink Cockatoo, came in to drink. These beautiful birds are very similiar to the large white Sulphur-crested Cockatoos except they have a bit of pink wash to their feathers. However, when they raise their large crests, they are beautifully striped with deep pinks and small lines of yellow. While not a rare bird, they are found in more arid areas and while I had seen them before, I had not had a chance to photoraph them. By late afternoon the cloud cover had beocome so heavy that photography became nearly imipossible for lack of light so I headed back to the campsite for an early dinner and bed.
