Yellow-plumed Honeyeater - Binya State Forest, Binya, New South Wales

After my night of wandering through fields, Islept in and headed for Melbourne this morning. Tomorrow is one of the few firm dates where I have to be somewhere as my girlfriend arrives for a three week visit for the holidays. This means that for the next three weeks or so I will be taking a bit of a holiday myself. We still will be traveling and I still will have the camera with me and using it often but the daily focus won't be photographing birds. Instead, I will get to see some other places that Imight not see on my own. This will be the first of two visits by friends and family when I will be taking a break. I will not be updating my weblog during this period as I will treating it as a vacation. Updates should resume on the 11th of January.

Our original plans involved spending Christmas in the Victorian Highlands before heading down to the coast and southwest Victoria at the beginning of the New Year. As all Australians undoubtedly know and maybe some folks in the United States know, there is an imense fire burning in the alpine region that we were hoping to visit. In the last few weeks over 600,000 hectares have burned and that number is at least three days old. So, in an attempt to avoid these fires, we are heading to Tasmania for the holidays before returning on January 3rd. Coincidentally, Tassie also has some fires but they are much smallere though threatening towns as well, but hopefully we can avoid those in our travels. We don't have any concrete plans but really look forward to exploring.

Anyway, Ijust wanted to let everyone know that I will be taking a break for the next few weeks. I hope everyone has a fantastic holiday season and I will see you in the new year.
