Success! Finally, after two days of nothing to show for my effort, I had a very productive morning. I started out by photographing a large family of Splendid Fairywrens which included two males in fairly brilliant breeding plumage. After getting some good pohotos of the fairywrens, Iwas pleased to find a flock of Yellow-rumped Thornbills that were fairly cooperative. While I have seen Yellow-rumpeds on numerous occasions, I only have one single frame of othem and it is probably the worst of all my thornbill images so it was very nice to improve upon that this morning.
Since my main target for the next few days is Malleefowl, I decided to movoe to the southern portion of the park where there is a lind on a mound. Idon'to know if the mound is active but I will give it a try in the morning. If it isn't, Ihave a back up plan that will include some backtracking but should give me a chance at two differnet mounds. On my way to the southern portion of the park, Istopped to check out a site that was reported to have Black Honeyeaters. After a long walk through the appropriate habitat I once again came up empty onlny to find one riht back at my car! Finally! I was even able to get a few photos of it.
I spent the afternoon scouting the park and checking out the Malleefowl mound. A brief look gave me the impression that it was not oactive but Ireally don't know. However, I haven't heard any reports that it was active so I am sort of othinking that it isn't. We will give it a shot in the morning and see how things go.
