When I got up this morning I found that I was enveloped in a smoky haze from the nearby bush fires burning in the Gippsland area of Victoria. This made photography a bit difficult as it reduced the amount of light and colored it a bit. After a bit of experimenting, I found that it was still possible to get some shots without too much haze so off I went after the honeyeaters.
The birds were coming down to drink in flocks of about 50 birds and they would all come down to drink together. Ifound them very skittish and would move to the other side of the pool if I got anywhere near them. Eventually, after about an hour of slowly working towards them, I was able to get into a poosition where I could photograph them as they sat on a perch waiting to go down to drink. I was pleased to get not only the Yellow-tufted posted above but Fuscous and Brown-headed Honeyeaters as well.
It may have been a productive morning but as the day progressed, the smoke got worse to the point that it made photography impossible. So basically I spent the rest of the day reading and figuring out where I will head next. While I was cooking dinner tonight, I did manage to see a Squirrel Glider in a tree above me which was quite nice though I didn't get any photos.
